Hyundai Recalls Over Half a Million Cars—Palisade Seat Belts Can Fail in a Crash

Hyundai Motor has announced a major recall affecting 568,850 Palisade SUVs manufactured between 2020 and 2025 due to defective seat belt buckles that may fail to latch securely. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified the safety defect, which affects seat belts in the driver, passenger, and second-row window seats.

Critical Safety Risk for Palisade Owners

The faulty buckles pose a serious safety hazard during accidents or crashes, as seat belts may not properly secure occupants even when they appear fastened. This defect compromises the primary safety restraint system designed to protect passengers in collisions.

Immediate Action Required: Until repairs are completed, Palisade owners should firmly insert seat belts into buckles and pull the belt to verify secure latching before driving.

Free Repairs and Owner Notifications

Hyundai will provide free inspections and replace defective seat belt buckle assemblies at no cost to owners. Notification letters will be mailed to affected owners beginning November 10, 2025.

Second Recall Affects Ioniq 6 Electric Vehicles

In addition to the Palisade recall, Hyundai is recalling 31,042 Ioniq 6 electric sedans manufactured from 2023 to 2025 due to charging port door defects. Faulty retaining hooks can cause charging port doors to detach while driving, creating road hazards and accident risks.

Dealers will apply adhesive to secure the charging port door assemblies at no charge. Owner notifications for this recall also begin November 10, 2025.

Growing Pattern of Safety Issues

These recalls add to Hyundai’s recent string of safety-related vehicle defects, highlighting ongoing quality control challenges for the Korean automaker. The combined recalls affect nearly 600,000 vehicles in the United States, underscoring the scope of these safety concerns.
